Introduction to Mining
Build a foundation in mining and the key issues that shape how mining contributes to sustainable development.
The IGF Mining Academy is a global platform for learning, collaboration, and innovation in responsible mineral governance. Through expert-led training, actionable tools,
accessible resources, peer-to-peer learning, and collaborations for research, training, and innovation, the Academy helps public officials strengthen mining governance, improve policy and regulatory decisions, and turn mineral wealth into sustainable development outcomes for communities around the world.
Our offering is built on real-world expertise developed over more than 20 years in supporting mining governance policy processes and best practice across IGF member countries.

The IGF Mining Academy will host the new Global Mining Legislation Atlas (GMLA), a free publicly accessible online resource that brings mining and other sectoral laws and regulations from around the world into one easy-to-use platform.
Building on the African Mining Legislation Atlas (AMLA), an initiative of the World Bank Group, the African Legal Support Facility, and the African Union, the GMLA is expanding its scope globally to help governments, researchers, civil society, companies, and communities access reliable information on mining-related laws and regulations worldwide.
The GMLA is an interactive tool which makes it easier to compare mining regulations across countries and continents, understand legal frameworks, monitor approaches to critical minerals, and identify trends in mining governance.

The Global Academic and Research Network (GARN) brings together universities, researchers, and the IGF to strengthen mining education, research, and collaboration.
The network creates opportunities to:

The Research and Innovation Lab brings governments, researchers, universities, and other partners together to develop and test practical solutions to emerging challenges in mining governance. The lab creates a space to move from research and ideas to tools, approaches, and applications that can support better policy and practice.
MiFRS is a new interactive platform developed by the Applied Resource Policy Lab (ARPL) in collaboration with the IGF’s Global Mining Tax Initiative. The tool helps governments, civil society organizations, researchers, and development partners test how different mining tax rules could affect public revenues, investor returns, and benefit sharing under changing project and market conditions.
