Ronald Brouwer

Senior Economic Advisor

Ronald Brouwer is a senior economic advisor with the IGF, working on responsible development and benefits sharing concerning critical minerals in the energy transition.

Ronald brings over 20 years of experience in finance, sustainable development, and business development across the banking, manufacturing, and energy sectors. He has deep expertise in structuring sustainable finance mechanisms, evaluating renewable energy and infrastructure projects, managing investor relations, and facilitating cross-sectoral collaboration.

In his roles in energy transition finance and as an investment consultant, Ronald worked on funding frameworks for mini hydro, solar, and clean water infrastructure in collaboration with national development finance institutions and global philanthropic organizations. Most recently, he served as Principal at the Minderoo Foundation, leading the Sea the Future initiative to reduce plastic pollution and build circular economy partnerships across Southeast Asia. Earlier in his career, Ronald held senior roles in financial services, managing large corporate portfolios and strategic partnerships, as well as in sustainability-driven ventures, where he developed market and investment strategies for responsible aquaculture and mining sectors.

Ronald has a strong academic foundation in financial management from Airlangga University, complemented by advanced business education through an MBA program and a wide range of international certifications. He has undertaken executive training in credit risk, risk management, leadership, project management, sustainable finance, and green economy. His continuous professional development includes programs delivered by Moody’s, GARP, the United Nations, World Bank, and other global institutions focused on energy transition, gender and social inclusion, and circular economy.

Ronald speaks fluent Indonesian and English and is based in Jakarta, Indonesia.
