Bertram Lang

Senior Policy Advisor

Bertram Lang is a senior policy advisor with the IGF. His expertise centres on the sustainable governance of mining and mineral value chains, the geopolitics of critical mineral policies and standards with a particular focus on China’s role and global impact, as well as civil society and multistakeholder engagement.

Prior to joining the IGF, Bertram was a Mercator Fellow with the Minerals Team at the OECD Centre for Responsible Business Conduct. His professional experience further includes research within the Extractivism.de project at Marburg University, a visiting professorship at the University of Göttingen, as well as roles at the Mercator Institute for China Studies (Merics) and the European External Action Service in Beijing, among others.

Bertram holds a PhD in political science, with a specialization in Chinese foreign policy, from Goethe University Frankfurt. He also earned M.A. (hons.) degrees from the College of Europe in Bruges and Sciences Po Aix-en-Provence. He has extensive experience as an independent consultant for public institutions and civil society organizations, as well as a trainer and facilitator of transnational and cross-sectoral dialogue.

Based in Stuttgart, Bertram is fluent in German, French, and English and proficient in Chinese, Portuguese, and Spanish.
