The IGF and UNEP are jointly developing a practical guide to help producing-country governments assess and, where appropriate, integrate voluntary sustainability standards and initiatives (SSIs) into national mining policy and regulation.
Following the in-person consultation to be held on 14 October 2026 at the IGF Annual General Meeting, the IGF and UNEP are holding online follow-up consultations on the forthcoming Guide for Integration of Sustainability Standards and Initiatives into Mining Policy and Regulation.
Three separate online consultations are taking place during the week of 26 October 2026, one in each of English, French and Spanish, so that participants can engage in the language of their choice.
These online sessions offer an additional, inclusive consultation channel for IGF members and UNEP focal points — particularly government representatives who were unable to join the AGM discussion in person.
During the sessions, the IGF and UNEP will present the current state of the draft SSI Guide, open the floor for discussion, and use live polling to gather your feedback on its scope, structure and priority policy questions.
Input from the consultations will directly inform the next draft ahead of the written consultation planned for December 2026 / January 2027.
