Daniel Hill serves as Deputy Director for minerals sector multilateral affairs and horizontal policy within Natural Resources Canada, leading Canada’s engagements through fora including the G7, G20, the International Energy Agency, the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development, and the International Seabed Authority.
Within the Government of Canada, Daniel previously led a team focused on sectoral trade disputes and investment promotion and served as lead senior policy advisor for Canada-U.S. and Canada-Eurasia region sectoral relations. Prior experience includes economist roles covering multisectoral natural resources issues, with a focus on trade disputes through the World Trade Organization and economic impact analysis. Daniel has also worked for the World Bank on artisanal and small-scale mining issues in the Sahel.
Daniel is a trained economist, holding a Masters Degree in Economics with a specialization in natural resource economics and a Bachelors Degree in International Economics and Development from the University of Ottawa, along with more recent particiption in the Micro Certificate in Economic Leadership Program offered by the University of British Columbia Bradshaw Research Institute for Minerals and Mining (BRIMM). Daniel has spent half of his life outside of Canada, growing up in the South Pacific and living in Europe and Africa.
