During a five-day capacity building workshop in Conakry, Guinea, the IGF, in partnership with the NCEA, supported efforts to strengthen national capacity on environmental assessment and management in the mining sector. The workshop brought together participants to deepen their understanding of the tools and approaches needed to improve water, waste and biodiversity management in the country as well as strengthen environmental assessment requirements.
Technical sessions and practical learning
The programme combined technical sessions with practical exercises, giving participants the opportunity to link policy, regulation and implementation. Discussions covered Guinea’s environmental and social assessment framework, international good practice, and the use of rapid assessment tools to support decision-making on key environmental priorities.
Focus on water, waste and biodiversity
Particular attention was given to water management, mine waste and biodiversity, with participants exploring both the regulatory context and practical measures for monitoring, mitigation and follow-up. Case studies, group work and scenario-based exercises helped reinforce the technical content and encouraged exchange among participants.
