The G7 leaders have committed to strengthening diverse, secure, and responsible critical mineral supply chains and recognized the role of the Intergovernmental Forum on Mining, Minerals, Metals and Sustainable Development (IGF) in this effort.
“We are encouraged by this commitment and ready to work with our G7 partners in turning these ambitions into tangible progress. The G7 has rightly underscored the importance of international cooperation, value addition, and standards in strengthening critical mineral supply chains,” said IGF Director Isabelle Ramdoo. “With 86 member countries—many of them resource rich—the IGF is uniquely positioned to foster trust, build partnerships, and help align global efforts toward more inclusive, sustainable, and resilient mineral value chains.”
The statement follows two days of high-level deliberations in Kananaskis, Canada, where G7 leaders announced a Critical Minerals Action Plan that focuses on diversifying production, driving responsible investment, fostering innovation, and creating local value.
“On behalf of the IGF Secretariat and its member governments, we extend our thanks to the Canadian G7 presidency and all G7 leaders for recognizing the IGF’s role in promoting responsible mining and supporting mineral-rich countries in building resilient critical mineral supply chains,” Ramdoo added. “We look forward to working together to shape a mineral future that benefits all.”
The IGF supports more than 85 member countries in advancing their sustainable development goals through effective laws, policies, and regulations for the mining sector. We help governments take action to develop inclusive and gender-equitable practices, optimize financial benefits, support livelihoods, and safeguard the environment. The International Institute for Sustainable Development has hosted the IGF Secretariat since October 2015. Core funding is provided by the governments of Canada and the Netherlands.
