Some countries have developed sector-specific guidelines to deal with the pandemic, and Argentina, Colombia, and Peru have released mining-specific protocols. The following are key elements in the guidelines from these three mining nations.<\/p>\n<h4>Argentina<\/h4>\n<p>In response to the pandemic, Argentina\u2019s Ministry of Productive Development published a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.argentina.gob.ar\/sites\/default\/files\/covid19_recomendaciones_secretaria_de_mineria_1.pdf\">range of measures<\/a> that should be employed in the mining sector, which includes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Ensuring active workers have a \u201ccertificate of clearance\u201d for COVID-19.<\/li>\n<li>Practicing self-isolation to avoid spreading the virus to nearby communities.<\/li>\n<li>Working with supply contractors to identify risks, minimize disruptions.<\/li>\n<li>Using regular and accurate communication to disseminate new developments.<\/li>\n<li>Collaborating with and supporting local authorities and communities where possible.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Colombia<\/h4>\n<p>Colombia\u2019s Ministry of Mines and Energy, Ministry of Health and Social Protection, and Ministry of Labour, jointly released a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.minenergia.gov.co\/documents\/10180\/23517\/48526-Circular+01.pdf\">list of measures<\/a> meant to reduce the spread of COVID-19 in the mining and energy sectors, which includes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Monitoring employees\u2019 temperatures, along with identifying and isolating infected individuals.<\/li>\n<li>Recording workers who live with high-risk or vulnerable people and their travel and contact history.<\/li>\n<li>Establishing disinfection protocols for work facilities and equipment.<\/li>\n<li>Providing hand-washing stations for workers.<\/li>\n<li>Using operational schemes, such as flexible shift patterns.<\/li>\n<li>Providing mental health support for workers.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Peru<\/h4>\n<p>The Peruvian Ministry of Energy and Mines enacted a <a href=\"https:\/\/cdn.www.gob.pe\/uploads\/document\/file\/593839\/RM_N__111-2020-MINEM-DM.pdf\">ministerial resolution<\/a> approving a protocol for implementing measures to reduce the spread of COVID- 19 among people who work at mine sites. The protocol includes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Using signed, sworn statements from workers regarding potential symptoms, illness, or contact with an infected person.<\/li>\n<li>Physically examining workers, including temperature measurement.<\/li>\n<li>Using isolation and social distancing measures.<\/li>\n<li>These measures were followed by a more detailed and mandatory <a href=\"https:\/\/cdn.www.gob.pe\/uploads\/document\/file\/687507\/RM_N_128_2020_MINEM_DM.pdf\">health protocol<\/a> for all employers, workers, and contractors in the mining, hydrocarbon, and
